The Spencer Company was formed sometime around 1927 and became famous for their Certified Corsetieres who would come to your home and do personalized fittings for ladies’ undergarments, as described in Chapter 13. I’ve taken poetic license with Fritzi’s “Individually Spencer” bra, making it quite fancy. But a basic version of that bra, which was found in a trunk of old clothing in Elk Park’s Main Street Antiques (see above section re: Elk Station, NC) was the very thing that inspired the creation of When I Grow Too Old to Dream.
