Mossie’s Stockyard Café is a fictionalized version of a typical stockyard café, loosely based on Betty’s Stockyard Café in Kingsport, TN. The information about stockyard cafes given in Chapter 11 is accurate; they’re well known for doing a lively business during stockyard sales, for daily specials of local favorite dishes, and for being frequented by “regulars,” some of whom eat all three meals there daily, as is still true at Betty’s. While stockyard cafes are a dying breed in most of the country, there are still quite a few in Texas, particularly in the Fort Worth area.
